Bible Commentaries
When studying the Bible, a good commentary can come in very handy. But what is a commentary?
A Bible commentary is series of explanations and interpretations of Biblical texts. A commentary may span the entire Bible or be focused on one book, chapter, passage or verse. In a commentary, the author is seeking to explain the meaning of the text, often referencing the Bible in its original languages as well as outside resources that can help bring insight to the context of the passage. Commentaries also help to highlight and define details, provide overviews and summaries, and clarify obscure or hard-to-understand phrases. A commentary that is faithful to the text and based on sound theology can be very helpful to students of the Bible but it is important to balance the information that a commentary provides with the illuminating insight that the Holy Spirit provides to those who faithfully search the Scriptures.
